Some of my grass gets to be a bit tall before I cut it. Baling isn't an option. What is the best way to get the clippings off the lawn? Kubota dealer suggested a landscape rake. Would this work?
I am using a BX23 with 60" belly mower. Grass area is about 3 acres. Around the house is cut weekly, but the other areas can get to be a foot or more before I can get them cut.
I've seen the tiny yard sweeper thingies they use on small lawn tractors. Do they work, and if so is there a larger version?
I've also seen bagging or vaccuming attachments, but this seems like it would require lots of stops to empty the bags.

If you let your yard get that tall why is removing clippings a concern????
Get a bungy cord and open your discharge chute cover and blow the clipping out evenly across the yard.
Many times I remow in a higher gear to remove and clumping and stuff that did not cut right because of its lenght. I do not mow as often as I should (I try for once a week) but then again I have a yard and the neighbors and neighborhood org's can KMA. ....

I have a 48" sweeper that I use for lawn clippings and leaves. It works pretty well, but you have to get a good one. If you get a light weight sweeper, the tires don't develop enough traction to operate the sweeper properly. Mine is an Agri-fab, and it isn't as heavy as a sweeper should be to work really well. I remember seeing nice estate sweepers on line, but can't remember the manufacturer. A good 54" sweeper went for about $800.
That's why I have an Agri-fab. TSC for $250. Does the job. I would think a landscape rake could be a little rough on the lawn. ....

I think its time to ask the CEO for a larger tractor? Then get a 72" rotary cutter for the rest of the yard and you could cut that yard part every week and still have time to have a beer and take the little lady out to supper every week with the time you will save in NOT picking up the clippings.
I think Harvey hit it on the head, if you live in an area that you let your yard get that long why pick em up? Also, a tip here, dont fertilize the area you dont want to grow so much, just weed killer. ....

harvey: thanks for your reply. It wasn't that I didn't want to mow. I wasn't able to all season until now. Just this week I finally got a decent tractor complete with 60" mowing deck, so cutting it is no longer the problem. I am just worried when I'll be leaving behind such a huge volume of plant matter when I mow.
beagle: I appreciate your the tip; I will definitely look at the estate sweepers.
brokenarrow: Thanks for the idea about the fertilizer but I don't fertilize at all.
I'm going to keep looking at options for collecting grass. If nothing else all those clippings can do alot more good in my compost. ....

If this is just a once in a while type deal, i would mow the grass like normal and then let it dry out for a day. Then go back and mow it blowing the grass inwards. You may have to make a couple of rows, then just pick it up and put it on the compost pile. I did this earlier this year on a few acres and it didn't take very long. This way will save you a few bucks if this only needs to be done now and again. ....

If you want to spend the bucks a Steiner sweeperis pretty nice.It's ground driven chops the material and packs it into the hopper so you can get more in ....
